Commission a Painting
What does it mean to commission a painting? It means having an artist paint a custom painting for you. This can be a photo reference or an idea. Whatever the subject, it will be a one of a kind. My medium is watercolors and I create unique, transportive pieces of art for decor and gifting.
Gifting a commissioned painting
Commissioning a painting as a gift is a great way to capture a wonderful memory or create a cherished keepsake.
Watercolor paints and papers have come a long way and offer improved archival properties. I use the highest quality artist grade paints and papers to create your art work. I take the upmost care to protect their high quality so they will last generations to come. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a list of my materials.
I create both studio and on-location, also known as Plein air, watercolor paintings. I can work from your reference photo(s) in the studio or visit the location or subject for a en plein air painting.
Before I get started, we’ll discuss these details and I will also ask you some questions to help me create a truly one-of-a-kind painting.

I’m Monika Arturi, a watercolor artist and web developer living in downtown Chicago Illinois. Art has been a part of my life ever since I can remember and watercolors have been my favorite medium for the past 20 years or so. I love its versatility, tranquility, and ease of travel. I paint in studio and on-location, also known as en plein air painting and enjoy urban sketching from the spring through fall. Although 2020 has changed things for all of us.
I love working on watercolor commission pieces. With each piece I have a chance to contribute a bit of happiness into this world and I really enjoy that.
When you commission a painting from me, we’ll first chat to discuss what you had in mind and details about the subject. This can happen over email, a phone call, or in person. Whatever you’re comfortable with. I’ll want to gather as much information as I can before I get started painting.
We stay in touch throughout the process and I will upload photos and videos of the painting process so you can provide your feedback and any questions you have.
Once the painting is completed, I will contact you and either hand deliver or ship the painting to you.
